چکیده

Boothman, R., Kerr, M. M., Marshall, M. J., and Burland, W. L. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 147. Absorption and excretion of cephalexin by the newborn infant. Blood levels and urinary excretion of cephalexin were studied in newborn infants who were given 3-day courses of the antibiotic prophylactically. These infants were born to mothers with intrapartum pyrexia or with membranes ruptured for 72 hours or longer. Adequate blood levels of cephalexin were achieved after oral administration of 50 mg/kg every 12 hours, provided that the infant was not vomiting. Absorption

Pharmacokinetics in the newborn.

In addition to differences in the pharmacodynamic response in the infant, the dose and the pharmacokinetic processes acting upon that dose principally determine the efficacy and/or safety of a therapeutic or inadvertent exposure. At a given dose, significant differences in therapeutic efficacy and toxicant susceptibility exist between the newborn and adult. Immature pharmacokinetic processes in...

Absorption and endogenous faecal excretion of calcium by low birthweight infants

Low birthweight infants aged 4-41 days were given from birth one of three experimental milk formulae varying widely in content of calcium and phosphate. Ca and P in feed, urine, and faeces were measured between carmine markers corresponding to a metabolic period of 48 hours. Calcium enriched in 46Ca to provide a marker for the dietary Ca was added to one feed and 46Ca measured in urine and faec...

Pharmacokinetics in the infant.

Processes controlling the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and pharmacologic effects of drugs are likely to be immature or altered in neonates and infants. Absorption may be affected by differences in gastric pH and stomach emptying rate. Low serum protein concentrations and higher body water composition can change drug distribution. Drug metabolism enzyme activity is typically ...

Neural modulation of cephalexin intestinal absorption through the di- and tripeptide brush border transporter of rat jejunum in vivo.

Intestinal absorption of beta-lactamine antibiotics (e.g., cefixime and cephalexin) has been shown to proceed through the dipeptide carrier system. In a previous study, nifedipine (NFP), an L-type calcium channel blocker, enhanced the absorption of cefixime in vivo but not in vitro, and it was suggested that neural mechanisms might be involved in the effect of NFP. The aim of the present study ...
